Letter to the Editor:

The recent Women’s Conference was a god send.  It gave us women a sense of empowerment, we had a chance to share our experiences, and know that other women share our struggle for our identity as women.  Just as important as recognizing our needs, is the ability to solve our problems, and to seek out solutions to solve our issues. 

There were very few men at the conference, however I did see our past Assemblyman Larry Chimbole selling his book, which listed his past accomplishments.  I also saw someone I hope will be our future Assemblyman, Steve Fox, whom I believe will fight for all of us.

We women may live longer than men, but unfortunately we are more susceptible to ill health.  I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Fox, who served on the Antelope Valley Hospital Board for 14 years.  He is acutely sensitive to our needs.

He also spoke of the State’s need to insure that our current health insurance protection is not diminished by Sacramento Legislation.   Mr. Fox stressed the need for State funding to enlarge our nursing program, and to build larger emergency room, and I agree with him completely.  These issues are very important to me and to any woman, especially those with children.

The woman’s conference was a very inspiring experience for me.  I see it as a chance to put our ideas in action, with Legislatures who will listen to us, someone like Steve Fox.
