Dear Editor:
When someone commits a serious crime, they need to serve their full time. However, our prisons are overcrowded, and the prisons are releasing prisoners into our communities, many times after serving only 10 to 25 percent of their sentence.
The prisons are overcrowded, in part, due to the illegal immigrant criminals. It should not be our responsibility to pay to house some other country’s convicts.
What I think the State should do, is “immediately” begin deporting all nonviolent illegal immigrant convicts. This will make more space for our indigenous criminals to serve their full sentences.
And so that our borders are not just revolving doors for criminals to come back, we need to make our borders mean something. It is clear that we need to give our border agents the authority that they need to enforce the laws at our borders.
